"And... umm... don't touch the machine gun," Justin said with a smile. Anna’s eyes fell slightly wide as she glanced over her shoulder at Thomas and Simon. Thomas was too busy looking out the window and Simon stared back at her like a deer in the headlights. He dropped his eyes to the floor and sure enough there was a machine gun. His eyes would have popped out of his skull if he hadn’t been previously informed. He lifted his head up and looked at Anna and elevated his feet slightly so they weren’t on top of the gun. "It's not a toy, okay?" Justin added seriously. Simon looked at him, mouth ajar and nodded “Uh huh..okay..” Justin turned to her now and she gave a small smile, she hadn’t seen Simon so quiet. Sure, she should have been mildly concerned that her brothers were practically sitting right on a machine gun. But, the boys would have never dreamed of touching it. It wasn’t in their nature to be so curious around something they knew was dangerous.
Ann watched him for a second; he seemed to be looking for something. She didn’t like to question it; she figured he would be more or less in the same situation they were and everyone else. In this situation all were separated from loved ones and she assumed him to be no different. "I should've stayed with 'em," Justin muttered to himself but she caught it. She didn’t say anything; her face fell slightly sympathetic toward him. He’d been separated by someone and now he was beating himself up about it clearly. She remained quiet and glanced at the boys before turning back to Justin and introducing herself.
"I'm Justin," Justin replied a she kept his sight wondering outside. She looked over at the boys again, Thomas still gazed out of the window and Simon really didn’t know what to do with himself. She gave a brave smile, but really she had no idea what she was doing herself. It was just sheer luck that Justin had stumbled up on them, because now she had someone else’s thoughts to go by and not just her own "So... how bad is it up there? Zombies crawling all over the place?" Anna turned to look at him again. From what she had just learned, he was looking for someone and now with the question it seemed whoever they were, they were in the midst of it all.
Anna looked at him and fell silent, she didn’t really want to answer that what with the knowing he may have someone there but he wanted to know and it was only right to answer him honestly. She cleared her throat “Well, um..i hate to say this but..it’s not looking so good. We got there and..we couldn’t tell the difference between us and them, everyone is just bunched together and it’s chaos..and there’s so many people gathered and not enough transport to get them all out of here..i didn’t want to take my chances being swept up in there..” she said quietly, she kept her eyes on him. She felt awful for basically telling him that no one was getting out of there alive, but she wasn’t going to give him false hope, it wasn’t right.
“..You’re looking for someone aren’t you?..” she asked almost in a whisper, she didn’t want the boys hearing anything, because it wasn’t really there business and she wasn’t sure how he would feel about everyone knowing what he was going through “..Look, the chances are, if they were in Central Park, that they aren’t anymore. The majority of people bailed when the crowds got bigger, I wasn’t even going to try my luck in there, we were going to take the roads but..the traffic is horrendous and I hate waiting around..so I opted to look for another way out..because there has to be one..” She paused. She wasn’t sure if the people he was looking for would be in Central Park or out and safe, but what else could she say? If they were smart they’d have bailed like she had which meant they would be out of the danger zone.
She extended her hand and placed it comfortingly on his shoulder, it was in her nature to do so, She was the type of person who tended to stick by others and try to help them through situations that would be tough to do alone “If you wanna go and look for yourself, to see if you can find them..we can. I know how you’re feeling, and I know that not knowing for sure..can drive you crazy. So, It’s your call..” she said gently with a small smile. She removed her hand and waited to see what he decided.
