"Baseball has marked the time. This field, this game, is a part of our past, Ray. It reminds us of all that once was good, and could be again."
Sergent Brian Gamble was a good man. He wasn't the kind of guy who pissed people off and acted all tough. He didn't start fights and he didn't try to fuck people over. Brian Gamble was a good human being. He'd lived his this way since he'd "grown up." As a child, Brian Gamble was your stereotypical pain in the ass. He liked pissing people off and more importantly he liked getting what he wanted. Gamble had been born into a wealthy family who had made their fortune in the oil business. Oil was like gold out in Texas and Brian's family had plenty of it. Brian had always been as rich as they came... But when the young man couldn't get what he wanted anymore... That's when things changed for Brian. Not only had it been a blow to his ego, but it also changed his mentality and his way of life. The young man didn't expect for life to go down that way. He had everything laid out right before his very eyes. His life was being served to him on a silver platter... But sometimes... Sometimes life decides to throw you a curveball that you just aren't quite ready for. Brian Gamble had been an extraordinarily gifted pitcher. The young man could hurl a baseball faster and more accurately than many scouts had come to see in a while. The young man would've gone pro. Brian Gamble was actually heading in that direction until he suffered one of the worst injuries a baseball player could ever have happen. Brian Gamble injured his elbow so badly that he was going to need Tommy John surgery. It was a devastating blow to the young man's prospective career... Sure, there was rehab... But the fact that Brian couldn't get what he wanted for the first time in his life... That was enough to make Brian want to call it quits... And so he did. Instead, Brian went off to school and took his life in a completely different direction. Even though he couldn't necessarily pitch anymore... Brian still loved baseball. He was a fanatic and could give out statistics from the top of his head. The young man really just had a love for the game. It was the greatest sport on Earth for Brian. There was just no other way about it to him. There were other sports... And then there was baseball. Baseball, would always be his favorite, even if he couldn't play anymore. All of this though... All of it, seemed pretty meaningless in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. Gamble stood on the rooftop of the LaGuardia Airport Hotel. It was the safest place for them at the moment. Right now though, Gamble wasn't "on duty." He was just relaxing and venting a little. Brian had everything he'd need. The soldier had a baseball bat, a bag of balls and some beer. The beer was a little warm, but right now he didn't really give a shit. With Citi-Field in the distance, Brian Gamble had one big ass smirk on his face. With the bat in his hands, Brian picked up a ball, tossed it in the air and smashed the hell out of it, sending it out into the streets below. "God, it'll be a damn miracle if there are enough surviving players to make a whole team now." The weary soldier shook his head and grabbed a can of beer. He popped it open and took a big sip, before setting it down on a nearby table. In his best announcer-like voice, Gamble began to speak. "Aand Brian Gamble steps up to the plate. He really is something special ladies and gentlman... Let's see what the kid can do today." With a glimmer in his eye, Brian picked up another ball and repeated the previous process. This time however, he'd hit it far enough that he'd actually managed to nail a zombie in the head with the ball. "Aaand it's outtta heere!" Gamble chuckled softly to himself as the sun stood still in the middle of the sky. It was good to see that even though he couldn't throw the ball anymore... He could still manage to hit it fairly well.[/blockquote]

Alison Taylor
LaGuardia Airport Hotel
Alison was infamous for being a bit of a hardhead sometimes. She wasn’t seen as the kind of woman who wore her heart on her sleeve, often portraying quite a strong demeanour Sergeant Taylor was known by her colleagues for her bravery and daring behaviour. The redhead had never been faced with a problem that she couldn’t tackle, because she had the passion and the fierce determination to get things done. For as long as she could remember she had been the same way, and that was because of her upbringing. Alison’s father was a pretty strict man; he only wanted the best for his children and could be seen as a relatively pushy parent. She was closest to her father, which was the main reason for her ‘tomboyish’ ways. She didn’t like what most girls liked, she was a sporty kind of girl, she liked surfing and fishing in the summer. She liked hiking, taking a very proactive lifestyle...so when she aspired to be in the military this did not surprise her parents.
But, the fact she fell pregnant at 16...that through them off entirely. As far as they were concerned Alison wasn’t interested in guys (or girls, though her father did wonder) and the next thing they knew, she was seeing a guy and wound up pregnant. As expected, her beau did not stick around leaving a teenager mother to raise a child. Still, she did her damndest for her child, and only after a few years did she decide to pursue her career. Jacob was fine with her parents, though it pained her to leave him a lot of the time she knew that going out and working was the best, she could provide for him and give him what he needed and though she wished she could have been there she’d appreciate the job well done in the end.
These two weeks had been the hardest two weeks of her life. She found herself feeling emotions that she never quite knew before. It came with the fear and the disappointment. She wasn’t disappointed in herself, but disappointed the situation and her superiors for not filling them in like they should have. Surely, if they had known about this, they’d have had a pre plan of action, but instead...they went in blind and had no idea what had fucking hit them. Larsen and Kendall were away now, the original team divided up. This scared her, those people were her friends and she had no idea how they were doing or if they were even alive.
Alison pretty much played the role of mother hen, wanting to make sure everyone was okay and comfortable as they could be right now. There group was small, with James being the newest addition. This situation was hard, because Alison knew some things and things that James should have known, it was down to her to tell him but she couldn’t find the words in which to do so, so she waited. Every day she picked at her own brain to find the words, but she was blank every time and then she’d get upset because carrying all of this on her shoulders was wearing her down. She had so much shit going on in her head that she wondered how the hell she’d managed to carry on this far, she’d have lost her mind by now surely?
Alison found her way onto the roof, where as she took the stairs could hear Gamble. She wasn’t sure what he was doing, and could only hear muffled sounds of his voice. The redhead raised a brow and pushed the heavy door open seeing Gamble playing solo baseball. She stood in the door, a smirk covering her lips as she watched him. He hit a ball in the air quickly followed by his own commentating. Alison stifled a laugh, rolling her eyes at Gamble. He took another ball and struck again, batting it off the roof Aaand it's outtta heere!" he chuckled. Alison let the door close behind her, which would grab his attention. “...Aaand the crowd goes wild but..oh wait, what was that? Oh yes, he still swings like a girl.” Alison quipped playfully as the moved across the roof toward him.
Reaching him she picked up one of the balls and tossed it up and down in her hand, scaling her eyes on him “What are you doing?” she asked, she was referring to his little game not what he was doing exactly. Because...it was obvious, he was playing baseball.

"Baseball has marked the time. This field, this game, is a part of our past, Ray. It reminds us of all that once was good, and could be again."
Brian Gamble had all the glory in the world at his fingertips... He was going to go to college and play baseball and be a star... After that he'd go pro. Brian was going to be an all-star. He'd have his name in lights. Crowds would shout his name out and he would have thousands of eyes centered upon him while he was on the mound. Brian was untouchable... And yet, all of that had been taken away from him in the blink of an eye. When Brian injured his elbow, it was devastating. The young man had his dreams crushed in a matter of seconds. Sure, Tommy John surgery wasn't a death sentence to your career... But it was a nail in the coffin for Brian. The young man realized how fragile life really was. To have all your plans stolen from you in the blink of an eye... That was scary. Brian knew that he couldn't rely on baseball. Of course there was rehab... But the young man knew that it was all pretty damn circumstantial. There were no certainties in life... And so the young man decided to forgo his superstar athlete career and focus on something more concrete with a better foundation. Knowing that, Brian still couldn't believe he'd ended up here today. The young man was a soldier in the United States military... Yet, today... Brian wasn't just any normal soldier. Right now, Brian was stuck in the middle of a zombie apocalypse and it didn't look like he was getting out any time soon... So, yeah, it was no wonder that the young man had finally snapped in a sense. He needed to blow off some steam... And that was what Brian was doing when Alison found him. Brian was drinking some beers while hitting baseballs out into abyss of mindless zombies below. As the door closed, Brian turned his head towards the door and smiled at Alison. The young man laughed slightly as Alison teased him about swinging like a girl. "Pleeeeeeeaaase, don't tell me that you think you could do better." For a moment, Brian paused again. "Because we both know that I could out play you any day of the week..." As Alison asked Brian what he was doing up here on the roof, the young man's eyes narrowed slightly and his playful smirk disappeared. "I just needed some time to clear my head... Relax a little, y'know?" Slightly, Brian paused as he rested his baseball bat against his shoulder and looked to Alison. There was no use lying to her... Brian and Alison had known each other long enough... They could smell each other's own bullshit from a mile away. "Just worried about Diana. Worried about everything. I wish there was some way I could speak to her. Y'know, just to tell her that I was okay and that I love her." To be honest, that was what had been bugging Brian for a long time now. He loved his baby girl dearly. Brian's daughter was his pride and joy, there was no doubt about that. The fact that he couldn't see her or even speak to her right now absolutely killed him. "Want a beer? Sorry, no wine coolers for yah... Beer is all I've got, but at least they're on ice..." Brian smirked as he playfully teased Alison once more. Teasing the young woman was a nice distraction from everything that was bothering him... And the young man was certainly in need of a distraction.[/blockquote]

Alison Taylor
LaGuardia Airport Hotel
It was funny how something so normal could pull a person away from the present suckfest they had found themselves to be within. Alison came out onto the roof to find Brian playing ball. She smirked as she walked across the rooftop, watching the man play and commentate his own efforts. To be honest, the light heartedness about this made the situation easier to deal with, she was lucky that those around her were so strong minded and cool in this situation...it kept her strong.
Alison playfully added her own little commentary, mocking Brian and accusing him of playing like a girl "Pleeeeeeeaaase, don't tell me that you think you could do better." Brian retorted, she smirked smugly at the man as she moved toward him "Because we both know that I could out play you any day of the week..." Alison chuckled "...Riiight, whatever helps you sleep at night." she crooned playfully, gently nudging the man with her elbow before casting her gaze out across the roof.
"I just needed some time to clear my head... Relax a little, y'know?" He said. She nodded slightly, of course she knew the truth. He was doing what they all did, keep busy, try not to think about the situation and only hope that it'd get better "Just worried about Diana. Worried about everything. I wish there was some way I could speak to her. Y'know, just to tell her that I was okay and that I love her." Gamble stressed. Alison nodded again, understanding her colleague entirely. She placed a supportive hand on his shoulder, giving it a gentle squeeze for comfort.
"Want a beer? Sorry, no wine coolers for yah... Beer is all I've got, but at least they're on ice..." Brian said. Alison smiled, nodding at him "Beer sounds good." She replied gently. Alison said taking the bat from him. She gripped it in her hand, took a good look at it before holding it up as he was. She wasn't hitting any balls, just getting a feel for it whilst she conversed with Gamble.
"I'll have you know, I used to have a great swinging arm in high-school. Of course, I was no baseball player, I just communicated a lot with my fists." The redhead chirped with a coy smile.
