Personality-
Ethan is an all around nice guy. However, some of his personality traits would cause others to think otherwise and he’s okay with that. The thing is, Ethan likes to be perceived somewhat negatively because by doing so it means that people are inclined to take a step back from him and that’s what he prefers. Ethan is somewhat emotionally detached. He struggles with communication and finds it difficult to get close to others due to previous events in his life. Suffice to say that even though he does find it difficult and prefers not to really make connections with people, Ethan is a very likeable individual. Though, he hasn’t always been that way, but since having his daughter Ella, Ethan was forced to grow up fast.
Those who really know him would say that Ethan is very confident and increasingly arrogant. That’s something he can’t change and funnily enough something he has in common with his sister, Gwen. On top of being arrogant at times, he can also be pretty chauvinistic toward others (not primarily sexism as such, but people as a whole). Ethan is a very judgmental individual, a trait in which he more or less gets from his mother. He’s always making a comment toward others behaviour and choices and more or less never agrees with what others are doing. He prides himself on his own opinions. If anyone disagrees with him he’s likely to either ignore them or simply overpower their thoughts. He is extremely harsh when it comes to the actions of others. If he doesn’t agree with something someone has done, he makes damn sure to point it out. In no way is he as innocent as he’d like to think, which makes him a bit of a hypocrite. He tends to take the law into his own hands by handing out extrajudicial punishment to those whom he believes have done wrong.
Ethan is guilty of having a god complex, which with being said is mostly the reason as to why he’s always taking risks. He believes himself to be somewhat untouchable and in most cases he’d be right but he’s often the type to push himself too far, to the point where he’s outright endangering himself. Whether he’s in a sticky situation or not, Ethan will argue that he is mostly better than others and is capable of achieving anything he puts his mind too. Where others fail, Ethan often excels because he feels he has the drive and dedication to do so where as others would easily give up and be defeated.
There is a much softer, much more understanding side to Ethan which often shows in the form of helping others. He’s not the kind of person who will stand back and watch someone suffer, especially when he knows that he could actually help them out in some way. He’s extremely helpful and protective of others, often throwing himself into a situation to help another out. Ethan is a good listener and that’s mostly because he doesn’t usually have a lot to say. He’s particularly quiet when he isn’t throwing his opinions at people and is often deemed as sometimes socially awkward or just downright shy. His loyalties to those around him are admirable. If you’re a friend of his, he will have your back no matter what. But, if you cross him, there’s not really much hope ever restoring his trust and faith again because Ethan holds grudges.

- Ethan has many scars, most received from his hobbie as a cage fighter. The most obvious scar he has is on his chin. However, the facial hair covers it particularly well.
Hair- Blonde, Short and Often in a spiked up, messy fashion.
Eye Color- Blue
Race- Caucasian
Physique- Athletic, Muscular
Height- 6'3
Weight- 225lbs
Appearance- Ethan is athletically built. He stands at about 6’3 and weighs around 225lbs. He likes to keep in shape and by doing so; he puts in a lot of hours at the gym. Ethan is basically built like a tank, he’s got muscular arms, shoulders and his stomach is hard as a rock. Being healthy is something that he prides himself on, which is also why aside from training; he also sticks to a well balanced diet. He needs all his strength to go about his daily life, especially when it comes to his daughter Ella who likes to run about a lot. Ethan works as a fireman so staying in shape is crucial to his occupation. Aside from that, Ethan also, in his spare time partakes in cage fighting. Again, this calls for a decent amount of fitness and by being as tall and well build as he is, he’s quite good at what he does. Physical upkeep is something he takes seriously.
He has a long somewhat square shaped face, with small bright blue eyes and a long wide bridged nose. His eyes are the feature that stands out most on his face because they are brightly coloured and compliment his fair skin and lightly shaded hair. Ethan’s hair is short in length and often spiked and messy in style (kind of like he’s just woken up, which most days that are the case). Ethan isn’t fond of the clean shaven look and always opts for some minimal facial hair. It suits him better.
When it comes to fashion, he hardly cares for it. Though, that doesn’t mean he lets himself look like crap. Ethan tends to choose comfort over trend and wears pretty much anything that feels right. He’s usually wearing jeans and some kind of t-shirt or shirt. He likes neutral colors; whites, greys and blacks but sometimes wear brighter shades. He doesn’t however; think men should be allowed to wear pink because it’s a little emasculate.

History-
Ethaniel was born in Brooklyn, New York to Theresa and Andrew Matthews. He was raised in a wealthy home where he was always used to getting whatever it was that his young heart desired. Though, looking back now, they were meaningless. To be honest, he wasn’t one for materials, but as a child, he really knew no better. Tessa and Andrew were the working types. They were all about work and did not have much free time to spend with their kids. At a young age, Ethan and Gwen weren't really capable of understanding how it all worked. To be honest, the duo never asked questions because they knew every time Mom and Dad went away; they came back with something nice for them. If anything, it seemed to be a luxury when their parents went away because they came back bearing gifts. What child wouldn’t be happy with that?
It wasn’t always that way. Whenever their parents were around they doted on their children. However, Ethan’s parents were the pushy kind. Ethan wasn’t really the kind of person that needed aid in a particular direction, because he always knew what he wanted to do and always applied himself, but nothing alike that could be said about Gwen who much preferred to just indulge in a life of luxury, never straying too far from her father’s wallet. For a lot of his life though, Gwen was like Ethan’s shadow. Since he was a boy and got a lot of the attention and praise from his parents, Gwen seemed to aspire to be like him. She’d want to hang out with him, she liked the same things he did and avoided all of those things that typical girls did. Gwen was very tomboyish; she didn’t mind about getting her hands dirty, she liked wrestling and watching action movies. But after a few years, there mother couldn’t sit back anymore and began to intervene. Gwen was a girl, so she should have behaved like a girl and that’s where the trouble really began.
Ethan sat back and watched his sister as she was pushed into other activities; ballet and dancing, along with then participating in beauty pageants. It was boring for him and if he was honest, he kind of missed the old Gwen. He always believed that if she’d just applied herself, that maybe there mother would have eased off on her. Ethan pretty much did what he wanted, when he wanted. He was the apple of his father’s eye, a dutiful son who excelled in most things he did. He played football at school, he was on the swim team and ran track too. Ethan hated when his sister was frequently compared to him, not for himself but for her. He knew how she felt, how she suffered in his shadow and being compared constantly, seemed to throw her over the edge and she rebelled tremendously.
The thing was, Ethan didn’t want to be caught up in the middle of it all. He hated being caught up in Gwen’s feud with their parents and often found himself becoming the prime target for a lot of the issues. She blamed him heavily for the way there parents behaved toward her and sure, in some light it was his fault for setting such an example but at the end of the day the only person she could blame was herself. At one point, he’d even tried to get through to her but she just accused him for interfering and told him to butt out. He couldn’t help her if she didn’t want it. Eventually things got so bad that their parents relationship seemed to suffer and before her knew it, Gwen had run away.
Unlike any other family, they didn’t go after her and Ethan had no desire too. But, with Gwen gone he could certainly see more cracks in his parent’s relationship. His mother had begun drinking and his father a mess, his mother would be gone for weeks at a time and eventually Ethan got so sick of being stuck in the giant black hole that had been created...he quickly followed in Gwen’s direction, straight out of the door. Ethan decided to try something else. Everything he’d done this far, he’d excelled in. He achieved his goals and had a lot to be proud of. He moved to L.A in a bid to find himself and start taking his life into his own hands.
Like most stories, there always had to be a girl involved. He’d found her in San Francisco where she was working in her mother’s flower shop. She was a pleasant girl, kind and absolutely beautiful. she practically took his breath away. From the moment he saw her he knew that she'd play a big part in his life. Meeting up with her became a regular thing, it was nice to have someone around who understood and after a few casual, friendly lunch dates the two began to recognise a mutual attraction. It was hard to hide anything from her since anything he thought about she could pick up as if he’d said it out loud.
The two of them dated for several months before Ethan popped the question. In some cases one would have said he was rushing into things, and maybe he was but it didn’t seem that way to him. As far as he could see, she was the only thing he needed, she was the only person who truly understood him and because of all of that, they were perfect together. Not long after getting engaged, Sofia fell pregnant with a baby girl, which he was ecstatic about.
He was still pretty young, only just twenty but he had his feet firmly on the ground and a good life along with being able to provide for the woman he loved and his baby girl. Ethan opted to take a little time out of work just so that he could help Sofia with the baby. She had a lot of difficulty because it seemed that Sofia had postnatal depression and found it hard to really bond with Ella. It got so bad that Ethan had to stay out of work and take care of Ella on a regular basis because Sofia simply couldn’t do it.
Several months of therapy went by and Sofia slowly came around. He was supportive, as much as he could be due to the circumstances and the fact she seemed to push everyone away at the time. But, he didn’t give up easily and knew that she’d only get through this with help. Unfortunately, all the hard work fell to nothing when Sofia had a relapse and took her own life. He felt as if his whole world had been ripped from under his feet, he was absolutely devastated. Now things were hard, because though he’d been good with Ella this far, he was back on his own and wasn’t sure how he’d cope with everything. Sure, he had Sofia’s parents to help and they did a great amount while he went back to work several months later but everything was much harder without Sofia around.
Ethan moved back to New York to be closer to his friends and family and tried to start over. It took a good long while for the man to get back into a routine, to try and piece his life together and continue to provide for the only thing he had left...his daughter. After losing Sofia, it appeared that Ethan wasn't the same man he had once been. He was shy, introverted and seemingly at a loss when it came to enjoying what life had to offer. He found it hard to let go of his beloved. But, he knew that if he didn't try, he'd self destruct and then Ella would have had no one left.
Things started to look up when he met another girl and they hit it off right away but things were complicated. Ruth was absolutely stunning, she had the personality to go with it and being as forward as she was she was able to influence Ethan. She made a good impression on him, which encouraged him to come out of his shell a little more and appreciate the life he had. Ruth and Ethan became good friends, but Ethan knew that his feelings for her were a lot stronger then he'd have liked or even would admit to her...things were complicated, Ruth had a partner and Ethan well...he wasn't sure if he was even ready to leave Sofia in his past and focus on the future.
When the outbreak occured in New York, Ethan had been off work that day with his daughter Ella who had caught a tummy virus. With roads closed off due to overwhelming traffic and other obstacles (dead bodies) getting out was easier said then done and he and Ella became stranded. It came to pass that Ruth was also stranded, Ethan made it his goal to find Ruth, keep his daughter safe and make sure they all got out alive.

Sample RP-
Being on call constantly was difficult; more so when while on duty your head wasn’t exactly in the right place in time. Ethan had a lot on his mind right now, most of which circulated around his daughter and the little time that he had spent with her recently. Still he was anticipating the end of his shift, because he would finally get to spend the weekend with Ella. Life as a single parent was tough, especially when the only income coming in was provided by yourself. He was lucky to have Sofia’s parents around to offer a helping hand and take care of Ella when he had to work. It sure made things simpler when it came to providing for his child.
Unfortunately, as he was the sole provider, he did have to work many hours and spend less of them with Ella. She wouldn’t notice it while she was still only a baby, but he hoped that things would get better as she got older. He didn’t wish to become one of those parents who fobbed their child off on everyone; he wanted to be a good parent.
Most of the night had been spent taking care of minor incidents, little outside fires here and there mostly stuff caused by kids. It was annoying but what could you do?
Finally the time came and his shift was over. Ethan couldn’t have possibly moved quick enough to get out of work, with a quick shower and a change back into casual clothes he was out of the building like a shot and on his way to pick Ella up from her grandmothers. It was a 30 minute driver, 45 if you counted traffic but it was getting late so traffic wasn’t too much to be concerned about. When he did arrive Ella was already sleeping. He was grateful that Lizzy and Joe were around to help him out. It had been a long while since he’d spoken to his own family and without them he’d have surely been at a loss of what to do. They were a great relief to him; he really wasn’t sure what he’d have done without them.
Taking Ella, he gently slipped her into the car seat in back before heading back to the driver side and getting into the vehicle again. He set out for home, another hour or so drive. With Ella asleep, the drive was pretty boring, but he couldn’t help but glance in the mirror every so often, a wide grin on his face as he eyed the little girl behind him. Eventually he reached home and pulled up into the garage situated under the apartment complex. Ethan took the car seat out, with Ella inside and began to carry her into the building.
As he entered he could already hear booming sounds coming from one of the apartment; music. Saturday nights, the residents couldn’t be blamed and as it was only 10:30pm, they still had an hour and a half left before they’d have to turn it down due to regulations. With the noise about now, he opted to take the elevator, despite their apartment being on the first floor because he didn’t want to disturb Ella’s sleep. Once the elevator reached his floor, he stepped out carrying the car seat and set toward the front door.
Ethan glanced over his shoulder hearing commotion coming from the apartment across the hall from his. It was like that every night, the couple inside were constantly arguing. Ethan had bumped into the woman a few times in the hall, she didn’t go out much so he rarely saw her but when he did she was always covered in bruises. He’d asked her on more than one occasion if she was okay but she often just made excuses for her injuries, you know the usual ‘I fell over’ excuse. It was disheartening for him. Sure, he didn’t know this woman but he knew what was going on, what really had occurred and it pained him to know that he couldn’t do anything.
He could effectively do something but, who was he to intrude where he wasn’t welcome? She was scared and he understood that, but he couldn’t just charge in there and beat her boyfriend to a bloody mess without really knowing what was going on. God forbid a guy his size did something like that only to find he’d gotten the wrong end of the stick. Yeah, he doubted as much but he still had no real proof to back his suspicion of domestic abuse. Finally tearing his attention from the apartment he let himself into his, opened the door and flicked the lights on before stepping inside.
Closing the door behind him, he placed the car seat down and took Ella out, careful not to disturb her. Ethan carried her to her bed and gently placed her in. She’d already been dressed in her pyjamas at her grandparents, one less thing for Ethan to do. Having tucked Ella into bed, he turned and headed out of the room. As always, he kept the door open ajar so that the slightest noise could be heard. He’d still pop his head in the room, every so often to check on her like he always did.
He moved across the lounge and toward the kitchen, just about getting to the door when he heard the commotion next door getting louder. From his kitchen he could hear the yelling perfectly, he could even make out the words exchanged, he was ranting on about some guy supposedly calling her up and then began accusing her of sleeping around. Ethan sighed heavily, shaking his head and trying his best to ignore the yelling next door. Some of the words exchanged were shocking, he’d have never dreamt speaking to Sofia like that and to be honest, he wasn’t favourable having such people living next door to him. God forbid, if Ella heard any of this crap he’d have had to have some serious words with the neighbours, because this wasn’t acceptable.
Ethan opened the cupboard to take out a glass, but stopped once more. There was a loud sound, which could have only been mistaken for a slap of some kind and a hefty one at that. A thud followed and then the distant sound of crying. He’d grit his teeth by now, and clenched his fist tight. So tight that his knuckles were turning white and now, the glass in his grip shattered within his balled fist. Ethan tossed the shards to the side letting the pieces of glass fall away from his skin. It hurt, sure, it hurt like a son of a bitch but he was seething right now and hardly noticed the pain that came with.
The stocky man pulled his door open and strode across the corridor. His teeth were grit, his face red with fury. Ethan came to the door and instead of knocking, he kicked his foot against the wood and bust the door wide open. Those doors in this place were a whole load crap, made of ply wood mostly and easy to break. As soon as the door broke open, the commotion ceased. He stood in the doorway looking pissed. Ethan was as tall as the door and his shoulders almost as wide as the frame, a pure sight for sore eyes.
Evidently the man within the apartment wasn’t too pleased about the uninvited guest. His girlfriend was on the ground receiving kicks to her upper and lower body, she was on the ground writhing in agony. Ethan glanced at her, before sending a vicious glare toward her partner. He cricked his neck as the boyfriend came charging toward him. This piece of shit needed being taught a lesson and Ethan was the one who was going to do the teaching.
Ethan pulled his arm back toward himself, his fist balled ready to punch the guy clean out. The man stopped in his paces, staring in sheer surprise at his fiery guest. His legs trembled, a flurry of vowel sounds left him before Ethan’s fist drove toward him. He struck him straight in the jaw knocking him to the ground with one swing. He watched the man hit the floor, writhing in agony before finally sitting up. Ethan pointed at him, taking two steps toward him “Next time you wanna throw your fists around, come and knock on my door...or I’ll come and knock yours down again...” Ethan threatened him. After a moment or so, he turned and began to walk out of the apartment and headed back inside his own.
