Mike Lane & Family March 28th - Afternoon There was nothing like being able to take off a day at school to see a bunch of family member’s that were just going to give him dirty looks for having a father that everyone thinks stole from. It was never easy for Mike or Derek when it came to Walker family events since all the distant relatives and the aunts and uncles of his father all think he stole from them. Although none of that really mattered now, because he’s been in jail for quote a long time, over ten years. He was an accessory to murder and he had a lot of time on his hands in jail. Mike didn’t talk to his father, he didn’t see his father, and in some ways he didn’t know his father. But that didn’t stop him from facing those distant relatives he always did. He still had Derek, who understood what he was going through, and of course he had Anna, Kayla, Victoria, and Ollie there to watch his back.
He walked in, dressed casually in his light blue plaid shirt and jeans. He was dressed not much nicer than his cousins or anyone else. He walked in with his brother Derek and went over to a small group where he met his cousin Anna and Victoria who had just met up with their half siblings, Kayla and Oliver. Mike walked over and hugged each of them. Kayla had just gotten off work from the station and stopped by because it was such an inconvenience to go all the way home and then back here.
As he started chatting with his relatives, he looked behind him too spot in the next room a bunch of old times were whispering and looking over at Mike. He glared and then looked over to Derek who then did the same and without a word he up and left the room to go speak with their older cousin Bennett. Mike sighed and with another glance over he became increasingly annoyed. Anna looked over at Mike and then the crowd and put two and two together. She placed a hand on her shoulder and took a step n the direction of the crowd. “Could you be anymore tackless?” She said with a loud enough voice and the group of old timers sneered and they left their sights. “Thanks, Anna.” Mike said with a smirk and Anna put her arm around him for a side-hip hug. “No problem, Mikey.. Come get some water with me..” She said and as he nodded they walked away from the group.
He didn’t know what he would do without his cousins like Anna. Although she was a college student and he rarely got to see him anymore, he still felt just as close to her as ever before.
The two cousins walked over to the long table where they had pitchers of water and other beverages, but mostly soda for the younger’s. Anna poured herself a glass of water and Mike poured himself a glass of root beer. He felt pretty excited he was getting his favorite drink at such a stressful time and then Anna gestured to follow him as they were both off and on drinking their drinks. They walked outside and out to a little cathedral that was in the middle of the back yard. They walked over and sat inside, across from each other. “So, everything been doing well for you.. And Derek?” She asked, he noticed a hint of concern in her voice.
He looked up at her and nodded with a smirk after taking another sip of his drink. “Oh yeah, everything has been fine, lately.. My swim team made it to the championship.” She said with an excitement grin and she smiled back to him just as wide. Anna was proud of her younger cousin, there was no denying that. “I’m proud of you..” She said as she nodded her head and he smiled up at her as he looked up. Mike had no idea that Anna had been communicating with Mike’s father, also her own uncle. They were brothers, and they were close. Mike looked up to say something important “You know Anna I-” But his message was soon cut short at the sound of screaming and crashing coming in from the house they were having their party from. They both got up and stepped out into the cathedral, not sure what to do.
Anna started running for the house and Mike hasped and ran after her, trying to grab her as he followed. “No, Anna, it’ not safe!” He yelled and soon she learned that for herself. They jumped through the glass windows and fell right on top of her. "Mike, heeelp!" She cried out for him.
Mike reacted as fast as he could rand over, taking her hand, and pulling her out. But it was to late, she already had her teeth in Anna. She was biting down hard, blooding starting to run down her leg as the infected person ripped a chunk of her leg right off. Anna was freaking out and screaming so Mike pulled her toward him with all his powers. Onhe he finally got her out, there were more people running out from inside the house, the zombies instead decided to attack and start eating. His eyes were wide as he started at it briefly as the jumped all over the other living relatives around him slowly being chomped to bits. He picked up Anna and there her arm around his neck as the two of them quickly made their way around to the front of the house where they saw Kayla, Victoria, Ollie, Derek, and Bennett fighting them off. Kayla was the only one with the gun, but that just meant she had the greatest weapon on their side… at the moment.
“Guys, she’s been hurt!” Mike yelled out as he went down to his knees as he was surrounded by familiar faces as he and Anna dropped to their knees. Although Anna went all the way down and landed on her back, she was pasty white, breathing heavily, had a looked as if she was going to die right there.
He looked around as Kayla kept shooting and Derek and Bennett where using every day objects as weapons against the infected population that was trying oh so hard to infect the rest of his family. Victoria, being the medical supervisor as she was, got down and started checking up on her. Ollie went down as well and did whatever he could to help as Mike went up. “Hey, Mike, heads up!” Derek called over to him as he threw him over a baseball bat that was autographed and he remembered being on display at the front entrance of the house. Before eh knew it one of the infected came his way and he swung with all his might, breaking the neck of the zombie instantly as it fell to the ground. They kept going until the zombies slowly started coming and then Victoria muttered the most horrifying words of all. “Guys.. She’s dead!” And that was it for them.
They all gathered around and saw it was true, she was ice cold and lifeless. They all started to tear up, but mostly they were angry. “God damn shit, here comes more!” Derek yelled as he noticed that everyone else from the party besides them and who they have killed were not infected and they had to take them out. Kayla took out most of them by shooting them in the head first and then the other guy’s beat them down without begging bitten or anything. Before they knew it, they were clean. No more infected in sight.
“Yes, we did it!” Bennett cried out and then Anna appeared behind him and sunk her teeth right into his neck. They all turned and gasped. Mike, being the closest one, ran over to fight here off. “Anna, stop!” He cried out but she only clawed at him and he fell to the ground with nothing more than a scratch on his arm deep enough to cause blood to drip slightly from his arm. Kayla listed her gun hesitantly but finally pulled the trigger and shot Anna right between the eyes. She had became one of them.. After she was bitten and then died. Now Bennett was the bitten one. He was shaking uncontrollable on the ground as Victoria with tears in her eyes, tried to hold the wound with her hand. Not like that made much of a difference.
It only took a few second for Bennett was stop.. And then turn cold.
He had a feeling he was just going to come back like the other’s, and so didn’t Kayla. She stood there before him with her gun pointed at his head and then once he woke up and shrieked, she pulled the trigger and killed him as well.. Although they all knew he was already dead… just like Anna. “Guys, we have to go, it’s not safe here. Kayla you still have keys to the Museum, right!? That’ just up the road.. Well, come on, let’s go!” He said and the group of them started to run way from the scene. It was just the five of them now, the only survivors.. That they knew of.

The building was doing its usual business with getting things done and holding criminals in cells until they go to trial to find out their sentence after they get their chance to tell the story and hope to hell that there wasn’t evidence against them. It was a building that Kayla loved to be in ever since she was a little kid that tagged along with her father every so often. It was her dream to be a police officer like her father, but that’s as far as she would go to be like her father. She didn’t resent him all that much anymore but she was not going to be unfaithful to the man that she loved like her father was to her mother. But regardless of all that family drama he caused, Jim was a fun guy to be around and she loved to hang out with him even after she was old enough to learn what he had done. Currently her father was out on duty at some kind of crime scene that had come up in the middle of the day so unexpectedly and Kayla was going to be taking the rest of the day off for her sister’s cousin, Mike. Granted there was a bit of distance in the family line since Kayla is only a half sister for two other sisters and they have a couple of cousins that were close in age, but nonetheless she got along with everyone in her messed up family. As a police officer, Kayla still had a bit of work to do before she could go over to the funeral for Mike’s father but she wasn’t worried about that all that much. It was really just paper work that had to be filled out that seemed to get bigger in her to do pile than in her done pile.
Kayla started to get to work at her desk that was technically her father’s but everyone always combined the two Benton’s work since they were family. It was secluded too with four walls that had pictures of inspiration and admiration from the past top crimes that the police had cracked in the state of New York over a couple of years now. She had gotten the chance to put some of the articles and pictures up by the picture frames that her father put in for her right before she had gotten to the station to see them as a little kid. There were plenty of memories in this building. Everyone that worked there knew her since she was little too. It felt like a second family to Kayla that she could could visit whenever she wanted and needed to.
As the work that Kayla sorted out as important and must be done now was finished, she looked at the clock and saw that she had just enough time to get what she needed done with. So after all of the paperwork that she had to do was done, she stood up from the desk and joined everyone in the next room. A receptionist stopped her. “I suppose that now your off for the rest of the day I should be calling you Kay?” She asked her with a smile. “Of course Ms. Blondie Curls!” Kayla said, calling the woman the nickname she had thought of when she was younger. “I’ll see you tomorrow. Same time same place.” She smiled at the receptionist before walking out of the building and going towards her usual car of a silver honda. She had it ever since she got her license which seems so long ago to the twenty-four year old. She took care of it very well just as she was taught how to by her parents and some friends as well. She then got it and started it up and checked the time again. She wasn’t going to be late that’s for sure.
Kayla reached the house that she was told to go to by Mike himself just a few days earlier. She parked her car on the street before getting out in her police uniform. If it wasn’t such a pain to go back to her apartment and change then she would of, but for now she was going to stay as she was including the gun, the sling for it and all that police stuff. Kayla could always just show off a bit to the family members that she had heard didn’t quite get along with Mike and his family. She found her brother and half sisters first so she went over to them and gave them all hugs as well as Mike who had found them all together. They all started to chat with Mike, hopefully trying to just distract him from his other family members that were giving him looks and the such but it seemed as if it wasn’t working. Her half sister Anna stayed with Mike as her other half sister Victoria went for a walk with Kayla and Ollie following her. They started to catch up in the front room of the house so they wouldn’t be closed in by all the old people that were looking at them as they all stood around and talked about each other’s lives.
There was a change in the tone and feeling in the whole house so suddenly that it made Kayla not only suspicious but also uneasy. She suggested that they walk outside to get some fresh air in the stuff house and they agreed. Once they opened the door, Kayla saw in the corner of her eye something moving close to them all. She turned her head and then screamed at all of them to get out of the house. Her siblings did so and Kayla followed them right after, shutting the door on some guy’s hand which instead of stopping the door from closing all the way, it was chopped right off. Kayla took out her gun and made sure it was loaded. She had extra bullets on her but she wasn’t sure what it was that she was dealing with until the zombies knocked down the front door and started to run as fast as they could over to Kayla and the others. She started to shoot the zombies in the head as fast as she could while backing up as far as possible. She saw that her siblings had some equipment with them that they used to beat the zombies and they were soon joined by Derek and Bennett and not long after that, Mike and Anna as well. Victoria was in the medical career and she looked at her full blooded sister Anna and tried to help as best she could while Kayla continued shooting the zombies and the others beat them until Kayla had time to shoot.
As Victoria had checked out Anna, she told everyone that she had died. Hearing the news of it only made Kayla angry that her sister had passed away and she began to shoot more than ever. It would of been considered a new record for her if it was being monitored. Tears had started streaming down her face as she shot every infected and zombie in her sight. Finally there were no more zombies after them. Kayla let her gun hand go limp as Bennett started to cheer before Anna had grabbed him by her teeth and infected Bennett. Kayla held up the gun once more and shot her sister right between her eyes to stop her. The wound that Bennett had was changing him. That much Kayla knew already. He was shaking and she knew she had to shoot him too which made her hold the gun right where she needed it. She waited until she heard the shriek of a zombie before shooting him too. Mike had said something about the museum keys and she only nodded her head about having them on her. The five of them, Kayla, Ollie, Victoria, Derek, and Mike then started running as fast as they could to the museum building. [/size]

Ollie was never one for big family get together. In fact he preferred staying in his dark room with his eyes on his laptop. But here he was, dragged out by Anna who threatened to smash his laptop if he didn’t. So he’d taken the precaution of bringing the thing with him. He went to the gym four or five times a week, and he often got out with a few friends. So he didn’t see an issue when she called it his addiction, she never left that alone. But in the end she got him to agree to come with her to this thing. He knew Mike and his brother Derek would be there. He knew them to be cousins to his half-sisters. And they were pretty cool to hang around. And if he hung around them he knew no one would outright say anything about they’re dad. The guys had a hard enough time he was sure. But Ollie was one to start and finish an issue if someone tried to make one out of nothing.
Everything had seemed to be going ok. That was until he heard people start screaming. “What the……” he started to say. But went quiet when he saw what it was. What he saw explained everything. It was something right out of the horror movies he’d watched. But this was real, and he was in the fight of his life. He’d gotten his hand a hold a metal pipe, and fought off what he could with that. But his head nearly spun off his neck when he heard a scream that he knew to be Anna. In his hesitation he was knocked to the ground, and one of the things tried to lung on him. But he kicked out his foot and stopped that from happen. He pushed him backwards as fast as he could and skidded to his feet. And he whacked the thing’s head clean off with the piece of pipe. And he made his way around to see Anna taking a bite out of Bennet’s neck. Ollie just froze. His sister had become one of those things.
Fortunately it was him who had to end that. Kayla shot her in the head, and then proceeded to do the same to Bennet. Ollie had to fight back the urge to stop her. He knew that thing wasn’t his sister anymore, but it didn’t make it any easier watching her get shot between the eyes. He pulled himself together, he had too. He run over and helped Mike up off the ground. “Yea, we gotta get outta here.” He agreed. But he felt sick to his stomach now. He’d just watched several of his family members get eaten. It’s not something he could stomach. And he up chucked a couple times on the way to the museum. But he refused to take anyone’s helped when they stopped with him.

Derek’s grandmother was sweet. Sickening sweet. It grated his nerve how sweet she was and how she tried to make him into a respectable man, unlike his dad. He hated how people treated him because of his dad. He hated it even more when people badmouthed his dad. Sure his dad had gotten into lots of trouble, and sure his dad was arrested for armed robbery, which turned into manslaughter, but Derek still loved his dad. The man raised him for fourteen years. Well, he did the best he can anyways. And Derek turned out alright. Well, if you ignored the drug addiction, overprotective personality, and the sarcasm. He was an all around good guy.
Besides, the only reason he came to this family reunion was to catch up with Mike. He hadn’t see his baby brother in a while. Because of his current counseling and his messy college work, he hadn’t gotten the chance to talk with his brother. However when he arrived, he hadn’t spotted Mike. He remembered that it was still school hours. Mike was probably at school. Unfortunately that left him alone with some of the family members he didn’t agree with.
It had been such a long day. It really had. So Derek couldn’t help himself. He snuck into a secluded part of the house, the place no one would bother going. His old room. Which amazingly was still untouched. After locking the door behind him, Derek dug into his coat pocket and pulled out a sleek, metallic stick. It looked like a cigarette, yet it also looked like a laser pointer. He pressed the little button on the side and a little glow turned on at the tip of the stick. Bringing it to his lips, Derek inhaled before blowing out wispy white vapor.
“Thank god for e-cigarettes.” Derek muttered to himself. It had been a suggestion from a friend of his. She told him a that electronic cigarettes were substitutes for real cigarettes and most people who were trying to get clean used them to help with cravings and urges. For far it did help. Every time he got stressed or he just needed a drag, he pulled out his e-cigarette. Best 20 bucks he ever spent.
As he started to muse over his life and his counseling and what-not, he heard something coming outside. He frowned, wondering if someone started to use the water balloons he brought. That wasn’t in the plan for a while. Then his ears picked up the sound of crashing plates and stuff. He walked over to the window and looked out.
It looked like the scene of a horror movie. People where being attacked, being eaten by one another.
“The hell?”
He heard pounding at his door. Confused, Derek looked up. The pounding got louder and louder, the door breaking. Feeling like someone would break in, he looked around his room for something that could help. Just in case. He found an old cane he had from when he sprained his ankle. He reached for it, just as the door broke open and a decaying zombie came in. The thing came at Derek, but he whacked it with the cane, breaking its neck.
He didn’t think twice before running out of his room and through the house, where chaos was running. HE had always wondered what would happen if a zombie apocalypse broke out like in Resident Evil. Well now he knew. And if he had to say, he was pretty bad ass at taking out zombies. He had seen enough bad zombie movies to know to go for the head and to swing with everything he had. He eventually found Kayla by accident, bumping into her and almost hitting her. They were joined by Victoria, Bennett and soon Ollie. And then Mike and Anna came around. He could have hugged his baby brother if he hadn’t been fighting for his life. Instead he did the only thing he could and tossed a baseball bat towards his brother.
They made their escape and Derek had to catch his breath. It had been exhausting. He didn’t think this had been real. It just seemed so…unreal. He needed another drag. He dug into his coat pocket, feeling the sleek metallic feel of his e-cigarette. Oh thank god he still had it. He was about to pull it out when he heard something that made his blood turn cold.
Looking up he saw Mike get attacked by Anna. Or rather what had been Anna. Kayla killed her (or uh, re-killed her) and Derek ran to his brother’s side. “Mike!” he went over and ran his hands over his brother, checking him for injuring. He saw the scratch on his brother’s arm. “You ok?” They had to get out of here now.
