It had been a hard few months for Harper and her sister. She had been travelling with her ever since they had found their parents dead on the floor and for once it seemed like Harper was totally clueless as to what to actually do. It was a strange thought to actually think that Harper had been dumbfounded so easily by all of this; Angel had been worried for her sister as of now, she wanted to help so badly but knew that it would take more than words to really snap Harper out of whatever mental trauma was surrounding her mind like a thick fog. Travelling together had been the only wise idea that she had had in a long time because if they did that, then the chances were that they could split up when it got rough in order to try and confuse the fiends which roamed the streets. Harper was clearly confused by everything that was happening right now, it wasn’t rational.
Finally out of the silence which had rested between the sisters for a few ours Angel spoke. ”Harper, what’s going on through your head, you need to talk to me.” The words were soothing and filled with empathy but right now Harper was just being too stubborn and chose to ignore the actual question at heart. ”All I want to do is get out of here and think things through, we can’t do that if you keep nagging me every step of the way” she spoke with a slight tone of anger in her voice. She didn’t want to hang out here any longer than was really necessary and for Harper the whole idea of running into a warzone just sounded really stupid, sure Harper could take care of herself but Angel was no long distance runner. ”I’ll get us out of here one way or the other, you just have to trust me okay?” she spoke, trying to apologize without even saying it.
With that, her mind became a little clearer, ideas appearing into her head as she spoke about it. It was so bloody obvious right now. Whilst holed up in the abandoned apartment complex that they had situated themselves in right now they were completely open to attack and if that should so happen then they would be screwed. The one thing they needed to do was find a more secure location, somewhere where Harper was allowed to think and strategize this whole situation through. It was definitely going to be difficult to try and find somewhere that could accommodate them and also steer them away from the pending apocalypse that waited outside. For her this entire thing was just like an entire game of chess that needed to be thought out as such and once Harper found more solace she would be able to concentrate more and hopefully build up on tactics.
She looked to her sister with a strong and confident look. ”I know this is gonna sound strange but we need to move, we’re not gonna get anything done by just waiting here and hoping for the answers to come to us” she spoke her voice stern with authority as she demanded it from her older sister. She seemed fairly complaint and nodded her head in agreement. This was what they needed to do in order to save themselves from everything that was happening. ”Okay, we need to split up, we meet at the Queens center okay? There should be enough room and resources to be able to put us up for longer” she spoke. Once again, there was a small nod of compliance from her sister.
With that the younger of the two opened the door that lead to the outside world, taking a deep breath and preparing herself for the battle ahead. ”Wait at least five minutes before coming out, got it?” she said, not really waiting for an answer as she left the building into the wasteland that was New York City.
From there, there was really only one thing she could do… run. Harper practically legged it from one end of Queens to the other, using her tactical training and knowledge to stay out of the light and take a few shortcuts to avoid running into those monsters that had roamed the streets. They seemed vacant for the time being which was eerie enough because it was usually at this point that they all came out of nowhere for some sort of ambush. She kept running despite this, keeping her eyes and ears open for anything that might help. She did manage to make it to the building eventually as the steady crunch of glass under her feet signified that something was here. What it was she didn’t know, all she knew was that this was refuge and she needed it now more than ever.
