”Mam?” came a lone voice ringing through the apartment as the door latched itself closed behind Harper. The sound of silence greeting her back seemed to be eerily haunting at best. Her mother was always usually home on the weekdays and it was a surprise to see no one here.
She waited for a moment, her footsteps being slow and cautious at best right now. ”Da?” she asked once more, this time beckoning out to her father. It was unlikely that she would get a response but it was still worth a try. Of course as expected another bought of silence fell over the room as the haunting emptiness seemed to grip the room and tie it close together.
It was all surreal what was happening right now and for someone as well rounded and as rational as Harper. She had barely believed it herself that something like this could happen and it only went to show that no one was really perfect in a world full of madness. She had managed to sneak through the streets by herself but chances were that it wasn’t going to happen again because everything now seemed like a war zone, the streets torn up with armies of those brain feeding parasites. There was nothing she could really do right now as she shuffled slightly worrying more and more with every inch of ground that she managed to cover. What if she had been too late, what if they were already one of them, then what would happen.
”Anybody out there?”
A small whimper could be heard as she spoke once more, her eyes fleeting to the source of the sound which seemed to be coming from the bedroom. With nothing else to go on, she grabbed a ladle out of the utensils box, unsure of how she going to fend of these things. She waded her time by the doorframe, looking through the crack in the door to see a familiar face with the look of despair on her face. She pushed the door fully open and saw the real reason why she was crying. It was truly too horrible for words right now as she looked at it.
She looked at the bodies on the floor which seemed to pile up on top of each other and then there was the blood spatter all around the room as if whatever had done this had wanted something bad. It was haunting how serious this all was. ”W-what h-h-happened Angel?” she asked trying to shake the bad feelings from the back of her head as she knelt down next to the bodies.
”I came to check up on them and they were just like this… not moving. None of them have any pulses, they’re offfically gone” she said, unsure of how to break the news to her baby sister. It was okay though, she knew she was going to get her vengeance soon enough, all she needed to do though was to get out of New York first and establish a battle plan.
